One of the special features of Kontiolahti is the old fishing saunas located on the islands in Lake Höytiäinen. They offer a place for lake users to enjoy a meal or spend the night in a historical place. Some of the sites also have a traditional sauna.
Fishing saunas:
- Laitasaari Island: At the northern tip of the island. Transported over the ice from Sikosaari Island in 2004. A hut, sauna, toilet and firewood shed. Keys available at PR-Aitta
- Jussinluoto Island: At the southern end of the island. Separate sauna. Keys available at PR-Aitta
- Jere Island: Near the sandy beach on the southwestern side of the island. Transported from Kontionniemi in the late 1970s. A hut, separate sauna, toilet, cooking shelter and firewood shelter. No reservations.
The Jussinluoto and Laitasaari fishing saunas are so-called reservable huts, the keys for which can be picked up at PR-Aitta in Kontiolahti. Key deposit EUR 5. A fishing sauna can be booked for a maximum of two consecutive nights.
